INTERVIEW TO GUN BARREL - Metal 'n Roll for the World ¡¡¡¡
No place to doubts: one of the amazing efforts coming the last time from Germany, an amazing mixture of Heavy Metal and Rock and Roll, for me a pleasure to get them in our blogpage, because since the beggining when I heard his album "Battle-Tested" inmediatly I've known that they would arrive at top in this particular genre. Now for all you, leave a short interview with our friends of Gun Barrel, in this particular case with his bassplayer, mr. Tom Kintgen. Just enjoy and don't let to listen their new release "Outlaw Invasion" (superb album ¡¡¡¡¡):
MUNDO ROCK: Hello, glad to get the chance to do this interview with your band. I’d like to know how are all you and what are you emotions regarding the release of the new album “Outlaw Invasion”?
TOM KINTGEN: We’re so glad to have it in the stores. We love this album because it took a long time to finish it, but it was worth all the hard work.
MR: For whose still doesn’t know the name of Gun Barrel, could you tell us a little about history of the band?
TK: The first album was released in 2000. In the “Power-Dive” and “Battle-Tested” days the band had a different line –up. There was Holger Schulz on bass and Guido Feldhausen was the singer. Both quit in 2004 for different reasons and until then it was Rolf Tanzius on guitar, Xaver Drexler the voice, Toni Pinciroli on drums and me Tomcat Kintgen on bass. We did “Bombard your soul” in 2005 and now the actual album.
MR:Could you tell us a little about the parallel activities of the members band?? I wanna mean when you are not playing on stage?
TK: When we are not playing on stage we are always looking for a good time beside the stage. Haha. We have to run the company GUN BARREL which is a lot of work because we do a lot of booking, managing and the whole internet work on our own. We stay in contact with the fans, write new songs, love to go out and mow the lawn.
MR: Really it’s cool to check how is growing the great German stage over the years, with a lot of great metal acts into the Heavy Metal Scene, but Gun Barrel seems to be one of the bands with more original sound with his special mix of rock and roll and metal ? Do you think that in the future you could choose for only one way or keep melting both styles in your own way?
TK: I don’t think we will take the decision for only one way. We play the music that we love to do and that we are able to do. ;-) I don’t feel myself caught between two stools. We love to entertain people and this style is the way we do it best.
MR: How was the composition and production for “Outlaw Invasion” ?
TK: We wrote the songs in teamwork. That was the big difference between the last album and OUTLAW INVASION. Everyone in the band had the chance to bring in his influence in. We worked on it until everyone was satisfied with the result. The production took a long time because we had some problems to synchronize our schedule with the schedule of Yenz (Leonhardt). We wanted him to produce the album because we loved to work with him on BYS. But Yenz is very busy and so we had to take some breaks within the production time. But it was the right decision to do with him. He did a great job, and we had really good time with him. He also had the idea to let Tommy Hanssen do the mastering.
MR: Do you know something about the metal movement or some bands from South America or Chile specially??
TK: Sorry. No.
MR: What activities are coming in order to promote this new album?
TK: We will play live. Some dates are confirmed until now. There is no way to South America until now. That is really sad. I would like to visit that side of the world.
MR: Musically speaking, what differences you can tell between the new album and the last “Bombard your Soul”?
TK: First of all it was the way of working. On the last album Xaver had to write his lyrics and his vocal lines to songs that were already arranged and produced. This time he was in the process from the start. Foe me the sound is more Rock than Metal this time. We wanted to catch the sound of the band playing live. That is nearer than on any other GB record. And you get more variety on the new one. Even a ballad!
MR: What you likes and what not likes from the the present moment of Heavy Metal?
TK: I love the variety. There are so many bands and styles these days. You can get your Metal band for every moment and mood. But I miss some new heroes. Not that I don’t love the old ones. But where are the new big ROCKSTARS?
MR: Could you let us know some kind of words for our readers here in Chile and rest of South America too?
TK: Hey there people! Check out the OUTLAW INVASION to find out what we Germans mean by kicking some asses with Heavy Metal Rock ‘n’ Roll. Stay metal and don’t let anyone tell you something else. Cheers
GUS (BATTLEROAR): Hello Miguel. this is Gus the bass player of the band and i would like to thank you for giving us the chance to talk about our band...well we re all fine and really happy with the release of our new album !
GUS: The band was formed back in
GUS: Well... the composition of the songs is something always very hard for us with me living in England, Marco in Italy and the rest of the band in Greece !!! thank God for the internet !!!!we always exchange our ideas through the internet and we do our final touches in the studio! so we gathered all together in
MUNDO ROCK: What activities are coming in order to promote this new album?
GUS: we ve already played in April in
GUS: Unfortunately Black Lotus had some financial problems and they were eventually bankrupt.
GUS: I’d say that Age of Chaos was more dark with many mid tempo songs and a very polished production. The new album is faster, catchy, more heavy and the production is far better than the previous one ! It still has its epic moments though!
GUS: Personally I like everything about heavy metal...for me its a way of life and i would never change it !! The whole connection between the fans and the bands is something amazing and i think you cant find this in any other kind of music. there are so many bands everywhere in the world who keep the flame alive and this is the most promising thing! the only thing upsets me is that all the great bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath will come to an end sooner or later and this is going to be very hard for the whole metal community!
GUS: I wish you and your readers good health and i hope you ll keep the metal flame alive over there !! all the very best!
